The Spice...

David Lynch's 1984 sci-fi film, 'Dune' might be a crap film on many levels, but it's definitely a unique, surreal experience. It's utterly mesmerizing (not to mention utterly confusing) and the fact that I don't know what the hell is going on half the time is part of it's appeal.

This was a fairly quick ink caricature of Dune actor Kyle Maclachlan, cleaned up and coloured in Photoshop. Done for this week's challenge on Facebook's Caricaturama Showdown 3000.

To explain the blue eyes for those unfamiliar with the book or movie, the character Paul's eyes completely turn blue after being exposed to the spice drug melange on the planet Arrakis.

Also, if you get the opportunity, check out comic artist Bill Sienkiewicz's comic adaption of the movie. Lynch and Sienkiewicz is a match made in heaven.

Jennifer Aniston caricature

I'm not a big fan of this actress, she was annoying in 'Friends' (well, they were pretty much all annoying) and I avoid any movie she makes like the plague. So when I found out she was this week's subject on Caricaturama Showdown 3000, I thought there was no chance I was going to participate and give my time caricaturing someone I couldn't stand...but she does have a bunch of interesting features to maul, and as famous cartoonist Ralph Steadman once said, "Caricature is the next best thing to shooting somebody" (don't worry Jen, I don't hate you that much!). Saying that, besides the manly chin and neck, I could have been a lot more insulting with the caricature. I think I went pretty easy on her in the end.

Done in Photoshop.

Tripitaka

Another quickie, this time of Tripitaka from the 70's TV series 'Monkey'. I loved that show growing up.

About 2-3 hours in Photoshop. Background textures made with my custom brushes.

'Talk like that' quick paint

This was a quick digital painting done in Photoshop with reference taken from the music video, 'Talk like that' by Aussie electronica act, The Presets. Love their music, and the video had interesting lighting which I wanted to try and capture in the painting.
