This is a digital painting done for an Affectors exhibition called 'The Art of Storytelling'. Contributing artists had to choose a well known novel and bring it to life in their art. I chose John Steinbeck's classic, 'Of Mice and Men'.

Are there shades of Lon Chaney, Jr. in this Lennie? This is beautiful, man. Look at the size of him. The power and mystery there. I can’t imagine anyone—knowing the story or not—seeing this as a cover for the novel and not looking twice. Book covers a future market for you?

ReplyDeleteIt probably gives away too much of the story to work as a cover, but I'm glad to hear it evokes all the right emotions and reactions I intended.
The spirit and feel of Lon Chaney Jr. was definitely an influence on this Lennie but he wasn't used as reference.
Oh, wow. So heart-wrenching. Captures the character perfectly.
ReplyDeleteIncredible Chris! I am new fan of your art who has just discovered your talent. Is there any place I can purchase ur art so I can frame and put in my house?
