...and what a year it was!

This will be my last post for 2006. Think of this caricature as a big full stop on what has been a wonderful and exciting first chapter of my blogging experience.

I started this blog back in March (which feels like a lifetime ago now) and during that time I've had a blast molding this blog into something I'm quite proud of. Your constant, generous comments and emails have made it all worth while and I greatly appreciated every one of them.

I hope you all have a great holiday break, and rest assured I'll be chomping at the bit to get back into blogging in 2007!

Thanks again,

Chris Wahl

NCN caricatures

Recently I finally caved to peer pressure (thanks Sam) and became a member of the NCN (The National Caricaturist Network). A fun place to be and a great organization. Their forum is frequented by many well known caricaturists and is a wealth of knowledge on all things caricature.

Here are some caricatures of fellow artists and NCN members. Click on the names for their photos.

An illustration done for a magazine article about fussy clients in the illustration industry. Change after change, the wasted money starts piling high. From a creative point of view, the life, spontaneity and enthusiasm gets sucked out of the job.

Set to be published in Empty magazine next March, with the article written by the very talented Matt Jackson, who also happens to be (among other things) one of my agents from illustration agency, The Drawing Book.

Shrunken Heads!

I got the idea for this one while doing Sam's caricature last post. With her disembodied head and the hair tapering at the top, it reminded me a bit of a shrunken head.

Also there's a backlog of people to caricature on the Caricaturist's Caricature thread over at The Drawing Board. So 'killing three birds with one stone', a string of shrunken head caricatures is what resulted.

Here's their photos

All the Gorrie details

Here's a caricature of Canadian Caricaturist and Illustrator, Sam Gorrie (hence the really bad pun in the title). I recently stumbled onto her blog and it's a whole lot of fun. Some fun videos and great artwork.

I like both versions for different reasons. The sketch has some fun detail (some of which got lost when coloured) and the colour version conveys more of Sam's personality (the colours of her hair and eyes).
