Fun stuff. I keep coming to your site and am still very impressed each time. How long have you been a proffesional illustrator? Where did you start? I am still trying to land that "first time" job. What helped you? Anyways, Looks great.
-Henry
Thanks Henry.
I've been illustrating professionally for about 10 years now. My first paying gigs were with MAD magazine. I approached them at a comic convention with a portfolio of my b/w comicbook work. This was enough to get me started on interior MAD work. I eventually progressed to doing covers- a job which I still do once in a while.
From there I took a more diverse portfolio to an illustration agency and after doing some storyboard samples, I started doing freelance advertising work. I've been doing that now for about 8 years, pretty much full time.
My advice (for the advertising world anyway), would be to have a very diverse portfolio, showing as many different styles as you can confidetally do. I think this the only way you can achieve longevity in the freelance world. You have to be a 'jack-of-all-trades' to keep the constant workflow happening.
And finally just as important as that, maybe even more so, is to always meet your deadlines, no matter how much sleep you miss. Doesn't matter how good you are as an artist, be late once or twice and you're finished. But, I'm jumping ahead of myself...
Anyway, hope this advice helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Really terrific work !
Thanks again!
