Ewan McGregor
Done for a Drawing Jam on the actor. About 90 minutes, pencil and Photoshop.
The texture overlay is a map of London's railway system. It's a reference to the movie which launched Ewan's career, 'Trainspotting' in which he portrays a junkie. The 'tracks' going up his arm, was one of those artist's happy accidents which occured while I was positioning the map.
Since he's wearing a suit, I'm also submitting this to Illustration Friday's current topic 'Suit'.

wow this is a really nice one chris! awesome use of texture, great stuff:P
Love the "Tube" map as a textural element, but I am cartographer by trade, so I guess that makes sense. As you can see by my continuous run on sentences, I am not a grammarian.
Amazing! I love the texture and the wrinkles of his coat.
Great drawing Chris, and only 90 minutes!
I'm jealous!
great work!
Excellent drawing skills! You've definatly captured him and the reference to Trainspotting is brilliant.

Great!
Extremely well done likeness and pose.
I think the likeness(too much elongated face?) is a bit off but its a great draft as always Chris love the 300 sketch.
Great pic, love the attitude. Very appropriate.
Damn fine work,
And next time you do an illo of 300, let me know mate.

Hey Chris,
Just discovered your blog (yes I'm a bit slow I know). So this is what you've been doing down there at the foot of the mountains (it was -4 in Katoomba last night - brrr)!
Absolutely awesome stuff.
- Matt Hatton.
This is really impressive! I love the colours and lighting - and the white text works great
Thanks everyone for the great comments!
Nelson- Initially I wasn't too worried about getting a likeness, just wanted to capture the pose. But when I started to add the shading, Ewan's likeness came through but by then I'd already elongated the face shape etc.
Matt Hatton- Good hearing from you again, mate. Still doing movie work?
-4. Brrrr is right. It's a sweltering 6 degrees here in the valley :)
superb chris!!. someday i'll draw like your style.
Wow you did that in 90 minutes? That's crazy good!
dobby, cmj- Thanks guys!
Hey Chris.... nice work on this... I always find the happy accidents a welcome feature.... diggin' the tracks.... PEACE!
