Jumping teds, shrunken heads and punk co-eds

Posters and prints now available at my RedBubble store!!

This was done for Rhys McDonald's cheesecake pinup comic, 'Last Call for Sin' which is being released soon down here in Oz.

I make a guest appearance in this pinup as the shrunken head pendant. The inspiration for this piece came from one of my older drawings, DedTedHed.

Inked with felt tip pens (Artlines 0.4, 0.6), with a little bit of brushpen on the hair. Coloured in Photoshop.

Brilliant! great figure work and pose. Do you use reference for this type of pic Chris?

Thanks guys.

Dylan- I used a Poser model as reference for the general pose.

For those not in the know, Poser and Daz Studio are 3d programs which let you pose and light 3d human models. They are a great tool for reference when a live model isn't an option or you can't find the right photo for reference.

Reminds me of an Oz comic from the 80s, lots of popping in between worlds and eating mushrooms, Very Alice in wonderland.

Hey Chris,
really nice line work. did this piece take you long to ink?
the colors are great as well nice and simple but effective.
I took your advice and got a couple of Pitt brush pens and they are very good to use.
just wanted you to know I was listening.
keep posting the great work it's always inspiring.
cheers

Thanks guys!

Frank- This was inked a lot faster than my usual stuff. Usually I ink over tight pencils (because I don't like surprises) but this time I only had a pencil rough and not much time to finish the pinup, so I just took the plunge, kept the line moving and for once trusted my instincts. For that reason I personally think it turned out a lot more spontaneous than my usual comic work. I was especially happy with the way the inks on the teddies turned out.

Regarding the Pitt pens, once you wear the tip out, pull out the nib and there's a fresh point at the other end. A good money saver.

Chris,
thanks for the tip about the brush pen nibs.
And as for not using tight pencils for this one it hasn't hurt it one bit if anything this illustration has more energy and spontanaity to the line work.
so I wouild say keep it up, it's working for you. trust yourself and work with out the net.
cheers
